What is God like?  For pastor and author A. W. Tozer, there was no question more important.  In fact, Tozer’s desire to know God and His fullness consumed his entire life and ministry.  Utilizing the first of two books on the subject, this class invites us to look more deeply into God's grace, mercy, justice, holiness and goodness, among other things. Each lesson is centered around appropriate Scripture and is a combination of teaching and class discussion on the essential character of God.

 

Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts

(Seven Questions to Ask Before—and After—You Marry)

This class is specifically geared to engaged couples, couples considering marriage, and the newly married.  Meeting the needs of a generation overwhelmed by divorce, relationship experts Les & Leslie Parrott share seven key questions to help couples identify and overcome stumbling blocks to building a healthy, lifelong marriage.  The video curriculum will help you to learn and grow with other couples and the companion workbooks will help you apply what you’ve learned.

Wondering how you can become a member and get better connected at Third? This relationally based class discusses the history, mission and values of Third. But, more than that, it is our goal for you to discover your place in the life of Third Church. You’ll have opportunities to learn about various ministries and better understand the benefit of becoming a committed member of the Third Church community.

Expository Bible Study Class

You are invited to join an adult class that will be studying about covenant. Covenant is a vital concept in both Old and New Testaments. The three units in this quarter all focus on God’s covenant as manifested in communities. We will consider the persons whom God chose to be covenant leaders, the invitations God offered to enter into covenant, people’s responses to the invitations and the nature of God’s new covenant community. In September, we will be looking at: “Leadership in the Covenant of Community” from the Old Testament: Joshua, Judges, Ezra & Nehemiah. In October, we will be studying, “An open invitation to covenant living” from the Gospel of Mark. In November, we will look at “The New Covenant Community” from the Epistles of 1st and 2nd Peter. Please join us for an in-depth look at “Covenant Communities” meeting in the Conference Room at 10:30 a.m.

 “ …as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."  These words of Joshua spoken to God’s people were sealed with a promise, recorded in a book, and represented by a stone monument.  If it’s time to get serious about your promise to God and your family then this foundational class is for you.  Christian parents both desire and strive to raise Godly families and this 10 week class of practical why’s and how’s of family worship is designed to get you started and/or encourage your ongoing efforts. 

 


The Truth Project

Room: Chapel

A DVD-based study from Focus On The Family designed to equip believers with a comprehensive biblical worldview.  Practically and personally, participants will be introduced to the truth claims of God.  Twelve lessons discuss in detail God’s design for living out the Christian worldview in daily life.  Most importantly, it addresses the need to marry our actions to our core beliefs.  What this curriculum does is nothing short of transformational.  For more information visit The Truth Project online at http://www.thetruthproject.org/.

Did Jesus ever experience fear? How did He express His anger? Was He ever jealous or sad? What other emotions did Jesus experience and how did He express them in healthy ways? We’ll explore these issues and more as we look to Jesus for His help to become emotionally and spiritually healthy. Cost: None. Weekly Preparation: 30-60 minutes of suggested reading.

Parenting Your Teenager

Facilitators:  Jeff & Terri Porte

Join Pastor Jeff and his wife, Terri, as they facilitate this 5 week class using the DVD series, “Parenting Your Teenager,” featuring Les & Leslie Parrott. Identity questions. Emotional turmoil. Rebellion. Welcome to the teenager’s world. And if you’re their parent, you’re already in that mix. It’s a tough job, you know, and you’ve got to do it. Nowadays, you have to play counselor, cop and crisis manager all rolled into one. Good parenting means using your head, your heart and your faith. Parenting Your Teenager equips moms and dads to recognize common patterns, plan effective strategies and build character.

 

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Class

DVD presentations and workbook with group discussions.  Examine seven pathways to emotionally healthy spirituality by applying biblical truths to your life and ministry. MOPS

“Because Mothering Matters!”  If you are the mother of a preschooler, you need the support and encouragement of other moms just like you.  MOPS offers speakers on practical topics, spiritual reflection, fun activity nights, and new friends. Meets in room 401/402 in the lower level from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Esther

Beth Moore's newest Bible study is Esther: It's Tough Being a Woman. Esther is all about seeking God’s intervention on our behalf, moving forward with courageous faith and awaiting His perfect timing.  This study will teach you to know more deeply the God who is in your corner when you feel inadequate, threatened, or overwhelmed. Each week you will complete 5 days of homework, meet with your group to discuss what you have learned and view Beth’s teaching video sessions.
